We Found It in the Files: A Mayor’s Praise for the Tulsa Race Massacre

New Information in the Unreleased Documents from the Tulsa Race Massacre

During our latest Substack livestream, BWST founder Nehemiah Frank walked our community through newly released historical documents tied to the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre. Documents that had been sealed for generations. Documents that tell on the city in its own handwriting.

One of the most shocking?

A 1921 letter from the mayor at the time—praising law enforcement, while blaming Black residents for the destruction of Greenwood. You can watch the full video above.

A sense of gratitude for the white authorities who either stood by or participated in the killing, burning, and looting of Black Wall Street.

It’s the kind of record they hoped we’d never see.
But now, it’s out. And we’re reading it line by line.

Nehemiah’s livestream unpacks:

  • The exact language used by city officials in 1921

  • How white supremacy was sanitized and filed away

  • What these documents mean for the fight for reparations today
