Tulsa Uncovers More 1921 Massacre Victims — One Finally Has a Face to a Name
City confirms six more victims at Oaklawn Cemetery as Tulsa pushes forward in its historic effort to identify the dead of the 1921 Race Massacre.

For the first time, Tulsa has identified a 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre victim using DNA — giving a name and a face to a man buried in a plain wooden box for over a century. Five more victims, all killed by gunshot wounds, have also been confirmed.
Mayor Monroe Nichols, Tulsa’s first Black Mayor, calls it a breakthrough in the city’s pursuit of truth and justice. More excavations are planned this year.
This is history being reclaimed — one name and face at a time.
