This Bill Could Kill People—And Our Senators Don’t Care
If you think Medicaid and food assistance don’t matter, try living without them.
If there’s one thing I’m proud of this month, it’s traveling to Washington, D.C. with my friends at the National Parents Union to help stop Trump’s so-called “Big Beautiful Bill.” If passed, this cruel legislation would strip Medicaid from 138,000 Oklahomans and take SNAP benefits from another 156,000.
You won’t hear that from Senators James Lankford or Markwayne Mullin. They’re planning to vote for it anyway. Lankford’s too scared to stand up to Trump, and Mullin? He’s too busy kissing up to him to care.
This matters because the proposed “Big Beautiful Bill” isn’t just a political talking point; it’s a direct attack on working families, children, the elderly, and disabled Oklahomans and across the country who rely on Medicaid and SNAP to survive.
Here’s Why It Matters
138,000 Oklahomans could lose health coverage under Medicaid. That means fewer doctor visits, delayed diagnoses, and skyrocketing medical debt. People will die because they cannot afford care.
156,000 could lose food assistance. That includes children who depend on school meals and groceries from SNAP to avoid going to bed hungry.
These cuts hit rural, Black, Brown, and poor communities the hardest. The very people Lankford and Mullin claim to care about are the ones being sacrificed for political favor with Trump.
Senators Lankford and Mullin know the harm but are still backing the bill. Lankford out of cowardice, Mullin out of blind loyalty. Neither is standing up for Oklahoma’s most vulnerable.
