Ryan Walters Just Came for Ibram X. Kendi — But the History Doesn’t Back Him Up
Kendi’s work is about antiracism, history, and the roots of racist ideas. But when you need a boogeyman, facts don’t matter much.
Oklahoma’s top education official, Ryan Walters, is picking fights again.
This time, it’s with Ibram X. Kendi.
After Kendi criticized Oklahoma’s new social studies standards — calling them out for pushing election denial and scrubbing racism and sexism from the curriculum — Walters fired back.
He labeled Kendi the “godfather of CRT.”
Let’s be clear:
Kendi didn’t create Critical Race Theory.
CRT was developed by thinkers like Derrick Bell and Kimberlé Crenshaw in the 1970s and ’80s.
Kendi’s work is about antiracism, history, and the roots of racist ideas.
But when you need a boogeyman, facts don’t matter much.
This is bigger than a Twitter spat.
This is about who gets to shape what our kids learn — and what gets erased when politics takes over education.
At The Black Wall Street Times, we cover these fights because they’re not just headlines — they’re blueprints for control.
We’re pushing to reach 100 this month so we can keep reporting on education with depth, clarity, and no strings attached.
