Dr. Mautra Jones Is Making Oklahoma History — Again
As President of Oklahoma City Community College, Dr. Jones has led with vision, excellence, and a deep commitment to making education more accessible.
When Dr. Mautra Staley Jones became the first Black woman to lead a non-HBCU college in Oklahoma, she didn’t just break a ceiling — she built a new floor for others to stand on.
Now, she’s being inducted into the Oklahoma Hall of Fame — the state’s highest honor.
As President of Oklahoma City Community College, Dr. Jones has led with vision, excellence, and a deep commitment to making education more accessible. Under her leadership, OCCC has:
Awarded over 17,000 micro-credentials in one year
Kept tuition flat for seven straight years — the most affordable in the state
Earned a national ranking for its online psychology program
Became a National Center for Academic Excellence in Cyber Defense
But her reach goes beyond the classroom.
Dr. Jones serves on the boards of BancFirst, Oklahoma Watch, and the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation. She’s been named Citizen of the Year, Oklahoman of the Year, National Mother of the Year — and Forbes listed her as one of the top 10 Black higher ed CEOs to watch.
This fall, she’ll join the Oklahoma Hall of Fame Class of 2025.
