Black Femicide, Domestic Violence & Protecting Black Women

A candid conversation on the growing crisis of violence against Black women, survivor advocacy, and the fight for protection, healing, and accountability.

The Black Wall Street TimesCommentator and Political Writer, Alexanderia Baker-Haidara held a powerful and thought-provoking conversation on Black femicide, domestic violence, and the urgent need to protect Black women on Friday, May 8, 2026.

The discussion featured advocates and experts including YWCA Oklahoma Vice President Angela Beatty MSW, Ujima’s Chief Executive Officer Karma Cottman, and Women’s Resource Center Interim Executive Director Dr. Ajia I. Meux-Jacobs MWS, who shared insight from years of working directly with survivors of abuse and violence.

The panel explored the disproportionate rates of intimate partner violence facing Black women, the warning signs of abusive relationships, and the systemic barriers survivors often encounter when seeking protection, mental health support, housing, and justice. Speakers discussed issues such as love bombing, coercive control, financial abuse, trauma, and the ways violence is normalized or overlooked in Black communities.

The conversation also focused on prevention, healing, accountability, and community action—highlighting the importance of culturally responsive support systems, survivor advocacy, education, and policy reform. Throughout the discussion, panelists emphasized that protecting Black women requires both community awareness and institutional change.
